Miyakojima Gourmet | The “One-Coin” Katsu Curry at Café Junior Is Absolutely Delicious

Hello, tuna(@miyakojimalife_)

Today, I’d like to introduce a long-standing coffee shop on Miyakojima Island.

The café boom has been going strong for quite some time now, but I imagine many people feel a sense of nostalgia when they hear the term “coffee shop,” don’t they?

The shop we’re featuring this time has an interior that exudes a retro Showa-era vibe.

If you come to Miyakojima for a visit, please be sure to stop by! *ᴗ ᴗ)⁾⁾

JiAccess to Junia

Junior is located in the downtown area of Miyakojima (formerly Taira City).

It’s also a short drive from Pina-Gama Beach and Sunayama Beach.

Please see this article for more information about Sunayama Beach.

The exterior has a cute vibe.

Please see here for a map showing how to get there.

Junior Parking Lot

There is a parking lot for Junior on the right side of the store with space for three cars.

However, the parking lot is almost always full…

If the lot is full, ask at the store and they’ll direct you to a nearby parking lot (it’s free).

Please be aware that the parking lot on the left side of the store is not the Junior parking lot ( ;∀;)

Junior’s Business Hours

Business hours are from 12:00 to 15:30

It’s open from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a lunch break in between.

Points to note:Closed on Sundays.

While Sundays are usually the busiest day for restaurants, please be aware that many independently owned restaurants on Miyakojima Island are closed on Sundays.

JiYunia is a coffee shop with a retro Showa-era vibe

This is the entrance to Junior.

An atmosphere that evokes the Showa era through the early Heisei era

It reminds me of my childhood.

The interior also has a relaxing atmosphere.

The interior features plenty of wood grain, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

Most tables seat four people, but there are also tables that can seat about eight people.

Although the photo was taken against the light, there are many plants outside the window, which makes for a pleasant atmosphere.

The pendant lights also create a nice atmosphere.

A menu with character and surprisingly low prices

The menu has developed a nice patina over the years.

Open it up for even more surprises

The prices are so low, it’s almost as if time has stood still (@_@;)

I always wonder if they can actually make a profit at this price.

I keep going there because I want it to succeed.

SpicyPork Cutlet Curry

As mentioned on the home page, here is the katsu curry.

It really whets the appetite.

The spiciness makes you want to keep eating and drinking.

It might not be quite suitable for children, but it’s irresistible for those who love spicy food.

The pork cutlet has a crispy coating.

Katsu curry for 500 yen at this quality

Aside from the taste, what really surprised me was the price.

Pork Cutlet Curry: 500 yenThat’s it ( ゚Д゚)

I have a feeling the prices haven’t changed in nearly 30 years…

It definitely hasn’t changed since I was in high school.

It’s so delicious, you’d never believe it’s just a “one-coin” quality dish.

A portion big enough to fill you up

At first glance, it might not look like much, but the portion of rice in the katsu curry here is larger than at CoCo Ichibanya.

This is enough to fill an adult man’s stomach, so I think it might be a bit too much for women.

Back when I was in high school, I thought the portion sizes were just right, so they’re definitely on the generous side now (lol).

andThe pork cutlet set meal is also recommended.

A tonkatsu set meal at a coffee shop…?!

You might think so, but I’ve come to believe this is a common occurrence on the island.

Here is the tonkatsu set meal.

The tonkatsu here also has a crispy coating.

The miso soup also has a mild, comforting flavor.

You can even get a tonkatsu set meal for just one coin.

Surprisingly, the tonkatsu set meal here is also500 yenThat’s it (゚Д゚;)

What on earth does “tonkatsu set meal for 500 yen” mean…?

Even though people are sitting down to eat inside the restaurant—not just grabbing a bento to go—I wonder how they make a profit ( ˙▿˙ ; )

I always enjoy the food here, and I can’t help but think that even if they raised the prices, no one would complain.

The portion size is definitely generous.

I think you’ll understand if you look at the photos.

No matter how you look at it, this is a massive project (lol)

It’ll fill you up just as much as a pork cutlet curry.

I forgot to take a photo this time, but the coffee is freshly ground and quite delicious.

I try to take photos when there are as few customers as possible, but the restaurant is almost always full.

Even so, there are many middle-aged men who come here specifically for the set meals, so I get the impression that the turnover rate is high.

This is a recommended spot if you’re sightseeing on Miyakojima and feel like having a set meal or a cup of coffee.

I hope this article helps spark some excitement in someone.

Thank you for reading to the end*ᴗ ᴗ)⁾⁾
