What Is “17 End”?
It’s a mystery when it came to be called “17 End,”
its beauty has become a hot topic online,
it has become a popular tourist spot on Miyakojima in recent years.
Honestly,
it’s so beautiful that even residents of Miyako Island are amazed by it.
However, since the Irabu Bridge opened,
it’s been featured on social media, and to everyone’s surprise,
and, surprisingly, the arrival of tour buses
and the entry of marine tour operators,
and, given that it’s a one-way road, it seems like a situation where you’d think, “This can’t be right”—
chaotic situation—especially since it’s a one-way road
It is currently closed to traffic.
Due to these circumstances,
End 17 is currently closed to vehicles
vehicle traffic is prohibited on 17th End.

Since vehicles are prohibited,
you can park your car and walk from there.
There are two ways to get there,
the closest route on foot is from the Toriike area.
Here’s what it looks like on the map.

It’s actually 11 km from the Irabu Bridge—
I always thought Irabu was far away,
but looking at the distance, it really is quite a way even within the island.
By the way, this is just my personal opinion,
I get the feeling that people from Miyako don’t call it Shimojishima—
but simply “Irabu.”
When I first heard “Shimojishima Airport,”
I thought, “Huh? Are they building an airport in Shimoji (Town)?”
"
If there’s anyone from Miyako out there who says, “No, that’s not true—we call it Shimojishima!”
—my apologies to any Miyako locals who might be reading this…
There are certain times of day and seasons when the view is spectacular
Check out End 17
Take photos
It makes for great photos
—there are actually certain conditions you need to meet.
It’s more than beautiful enough as is, but
it’s even better when these three conditions are met:
① Good weather
Well, that goes without saying, doesn’t it?
② Around noon
If you’re looking for bright, sparkling photos, I personally think
is the best time, in my personal opinion
③ Low tide (spring tide)
This third point is very important—but it’s hard to time it right.
When taking photos of the ocean,
the gradients look more beautiful at low tide,
and I personally think it looks beautiful.
By the way, today
it was a spring tide—with the peak around 1:00 PM—and the weather was perfectly clear.
So, even without much skill, I think I was able to take some nice photos.

The water clarity and the white sandy beach look great!
At low tide, the whiteness of the sand really stands out, creating a very pale hue.

The white fence at the airport and the road stretching into the distance
and the ocean—it all looks absolutely wonderful

Personally, I think it’s a good thing that vehicles aren’t allowed here anymore.
The signs left over from the past really add to the charm.

I didn’t have a wide-angle lens with me this time, so I couldn’t capture it, but
Planes land here frequently,
it would be great to capture the contrast between them and the ocean.

Can you swim at End 17?
By the way, this beach
is not a designated swimming area, and the currents seem to be strong, so
it’s safer not to swim here.
Well, back in the day, there weren’t even lifeguards on the beach,
there weren’t many swimmers at all,
so no matter which beach I went to,
I only had a sense that they were dangerous (^^;
Just be careful and
and please enjoy
